About Homeopathy

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a complete system of natural medicine developed in the 18th century by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. It is based on the principle that 'like cures like' — substances that cause symptoms in healthy people can cure similar symptoms in sick people when given in highly diluted, potentised form.

Is homeopathy scientifically proven?

Homeopathy has a growing body of clinical research supporting its effectiveness, including randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses. While the exact mechanism of action is still being studied, thousands of clinical observations over 200 years — including in infants and animals — support its efficacy beyond placebo.

Is homeopathy recognised in India?

Yes. Homeopathy is officially recognised in India under the Ministry of AYUSH. It has its own regulatory body (Central Council of Homeopathy), medical colleges, hospitals, and pharmacopoeia. It is one of the most widely practised alternative systems of medicine in India.

How is homeopathy different from Ayurveda or herbal medicine?

Homeopathy, Ayurveda, and herbal medicine are three entirely distinct systems. Homeopathy uses potentised remedies from plant, mineral, and animal sources based on the Law of Similars. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system based on tridosha theory. Herbal medicine uses plant extracts in material doses. They share a holistic philosophy but have different principles and methods.

Treatment & Remedies

How long does homeopathic treatment take?

Acute conditions (colds, fever, acute injuries) often respond within hours to days. Chronic conditions — which took years to develop — typically require 6–18 months of sustained treatment. Your homeopath will give you a realistic timeframe based on your specific condition.

Are homeopathic remedies safe?

Yes. Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic, have no known drug interactions, and are safe for all ages — including newborns, pregnant women, and elderly patients. The only caution is avoiding antidotes such as camphor, strong mint, and coffee close to taking the remedy.

Can I take homeopathic remedies with my existing medicines?

Yes. Homeopathic remedies have no known interactions with conventional medications. You do not need to stop your existing medicines to receive homeopathic treatment. Never stop prescribed medications on your own — only taper under medical supervision as your condition improves.

What is a homeopathic aggravation?

Some patients notice a brief, temporary intensification of their symptoms after starting a correct remedy. This is called a homeopathic aggravation. It is generally short-lived (a few days) and is considered a positive sign that the remedy is acting. It is different from a side effect. If it persists or is severe, contact your homeopath.

Consultations at HealthKunj

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes. Your initial consultation at HealthKunj is completely free of charge. We want you to meet Dr. Thakur, understand our approach, and make an informed decision before committing to treatment.

How long does the first appointment take?

Your first consultation typically lasts 45–60 minutes. Dr. Thakur takes time to understand your complete health picture — physical symptoms, mental and emotional state, family history, and lifestyle — before prescribing.

Can I consult online?

Yes. HealthKunj offers secure video consultations for patients across India and internationally. Remedies are shipped directly to your door by courier.

How do follow-up appointments work?

Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled every 4–6 weeks for chronic cases. Your progress is reviewed carefully and the prescription is adjusted as needed. Follow-ups are shorter (15–30 minutes) and are conducted in-clinic or online.

Do I need to bring my medical records?

It is helpful but not essential. Please bring any recent investigation reports, prescriptions, or diagnostic summaries you have. Dr. Thakur will note these as part of your case history.

Lifestyle & Remedies

What foods or substances should I avoid while on homeopathic treatment?

Avoid coffee, strong mint (including mint-flavoured toothpaste used immediately before or after taking the remedy), camphor, and eucalyptus within 30 minutes of taking your remedy, as these may antidote the medicine.

How should I store my homeopathic medicines?

Store remedies in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, strong odours (perfumes, camphor, essential oils), and electromagnetic radiation. Keep them in their original sealed containers.

Can I eat and drink normally during treatment?

Yes. You do not need to follow a special diet unless your homeopath advises otherwise based on your specific condition. The only precaution is avoiding known antidotes close to taking your remedy.
