Understanding Cellulitis

When Antibiotics Are Essential
Moderate to severe cellulitis — involving systemic fever, rapid spread, facial location, or signs of deeper infection — requires prompt antibiotic treatment, typically with oral flucloxacillin or amoxicillin-clavulanate. Severe cases with systemic toxicity require hospitalisation and intravenous antibiotics. Diabetic patients and immunocompromised individuals with cellulitis require particularly prompt and aggressive treatment. Homeopathy must not be used as the primary or sole treatment for moderate-to-severe cellulitis. Delayed treatment risks septicaemia and necrotising fasciitis, both potentially fatal.
