Cervicitis — Homeopathic Approach to Cervical Inflammation

Dr. Meera ThakurMarch 20265 min read

Cervicitis — inflammation of the cervix — is among the most common gynaecological conditions. It may be infectious (STIs, bacterial vaginosis) or non-infectious (chemical irritation, trauma). Constitutional homeopathy addresses both the acute inflammatory picture and the underlying susceptibility to recurrence.

Understanding Cervicitis

Cervicitis presents with mucopurulent or purulent cervical discharge, post-coital bleeding, intermenstrual bleeding, pelvic discomfort, and dyspareunia. Many cases are asymptomatic — discovered only on examination. Infectious causes include Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Herpes simplex virus. Bacterial vaginosis is a common co-occurrence.

Acute infectious cervicitis with identified STI pathogens requires appropriate antibiotic treatment, and this should not be delayed. Homeopathy plays a significant role in chronic, recurrent, or non-infectious cervicitis — reducing inflammation, improving local immunity, and addressing the systemic constitutional predisposition to repeated infections.

Key Homeopathic Remedies for Cervicitis

Sepia

Profuse, yellowish, offensive leucorrhoea; bearing-down sensation as if everything would fall out; worse before menses; indifferent, irritable; dragging pelvic pain; erosion of cervix

Kreosotum

Intensely offensive, acrid, yellow-brown discharge causing excoriation; violent itching; intermittent bleeding; burning in genitalia; worse between periods

Medorrhinum

Recurrent cervicitis with strong family history of STIs; profuse, fishy-smelling discharge; pelvic inflammatory tendency; intense sexual desire; worse indoors; better at seaside

Pulsatilla

Bland, creamy, changeable discharge; mild and yielding constitution; worse from heat; pelvic congestion; irregular cycles; weeping tendency; better in open air

Nitric Acid

Cervical erosion with splinter-like pains; offensive, brown discharge; cervical polyps or growths; bleeding on contact; fissures and ulcers in mucous membranes

Hydrastis

Thick, ropy, yellowish discharge from mucous membranes; cervical catarrh; chronic inflammation; associated liver or digestive weakness; bitter taste

Recurrent pelvic infections signal a constitutional vulnerability.

Constitutional homeopathy strengthens local immunity and addresses the underlying tendency to cervical inflammation. Most patients with chronic cervicitis see significant improvement within 2–3 months.
