Silicea 6X, 30 & 200: Uses, Benefits and Dosage

Dr. Meera ThakurOctober 20267 min read

Silicea (pure silica, from flint) is both one of Schuessler's twelve tissue salts and a major constitutional remedy. It suits refined, conscientious, chilly people who lack stamina — and complaints where the body is slow to heal or to push something out.

The Silicea person

  • Chilly, needs to be wrapped up, especially the head; worse from cold air and draughts.
  • Sweaty, offensive feet and sweaty head, with cold extremities.
  • Lacks 'grit' — capable and careful, but anxious before exams or public speaking and easily exhausted.
  • Weak nails and hair — brittle nails with white spots, hair that breaks easily.
  • Slow healing — small wounds take long to heal and tend to suppurate.

Traditionally indicated for

Boils and abscesses

Slow-to-ripen boils, abscesses and styes that need help to come to a head and drain.

Splinters and foreign bodies

Traditionally used to help the body expel splinters, fish bones or thorns from the skin.

Sweaty feet

Offensive foot sweat that rots socks, with cold feet.

Brittle nails and hair

Rough, brittle nails; hair that breaks and falls.

Constipation

'Bashful stool' — partly expelled stool that slips back.

Recurring colds and glands

Chilly children with frequent colds and slow-healing swollen glands.

Silicea 6X vs Silicea 30 vs Silicea 200: Uses and Differences

Silicea is used as a 6X or 12X tissue salt for general support of skin, hair, nails and healing, and in 30C and 200C as a constitutional remedy.

⚠️

Because Silicea is traditionally said to help the body push out foreign material, many homeopaths avoid it in people with surgical implants, pacemakers or recent joint replacements — tell your homeopath about any implant. A boil with spreading redness, fever or red streaks, or an abscess near the eye or on the face, needs medical care.

PotencyGenerally used forHow it is usually used
Silicea 6X (tissue salt)General support for weak nails and hair, slow healing, and recurring minor boils.Low-potency tablets traditionally taken more often over weeks, under guidance.
Silicea 30Acute boils and abscesses slow to ripen, splinters, styes, in a chilly person.Used for a short period as advised; the homeopath reassesses as the complaint changes.
Silicea 200Constitutional treatment of the chilly, delicate Silicea type with recurring infections, sweaty feet and low stamina.Given infrequently and chosen by a practitioner.

This is general materia medica information, not a prescription. Potency, dose and how often to repeat it should be set by a qualified homeopath after a full case assessment.

Using homeopathic medicines safely

Keep medicines out of reach of children. Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and strong smells such as camphor, menthol or perfume. Don't exceed the dose or frequency your homeopath advises, and seek advice if symptoms get markedly worse.

Silicea: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Silicea 30 used for?▾

Silicea 30 is traditionally used for boils and abscesses slow to come to a head, splinters and styes, and offensive sweaty feet in a chilly person. The right potency and how often to take it depend on your full case, so a qualified homeopath should decide this.

What is Silicea 6X used for?▾

As a tissue salt, Silicea 6X is traditionally used to support brittle nails and hair, slow healing and recurring minor skin infections.

Does Silicea help remove splinters?▾

Silicea is traditionally used to help the body expel small splinters and foreign bodies. Deep, dirty or large splinters, glass, or anything near the eye should be removed by a doctor.

Who should avoid Silicea?▾

Many homeopaths avoid Silicea in people with surgical implants or pacemakers, so always tell your homeopath about any implant before starting it.
