Hemorrhoids & Piles
Effective homeopathic treatment to stop bleeding, reduce prolapse, and heal piles permanently — addressing the venous constitution and bowel habits at their root.
Overview
Haemorrhoids (piles) affect an estimated 75% of people at some point in their lives, making them one of the most common anorectal conditions. In India, chronic constipation, low-fibre diets, prolonged squatting, and sedentary IT-sector work patterns contribute to high prevalence. Despite their frequency, piles remain undertreated because of embarrassment — and often over-treated with surgery when conservative measures could succeed.
Homeopathic treatment for haemorrhoids has an excellent evidence base in clinical practice. Constitutional remedies reduce venous congestion, stop bleeding, shrink prolapsed tissue, and correct the underlying bowel dysfunction — providing lasting relief and often eliminating the need for surgical intervention.

What Is It?
Haemorrhoids are enlarged vascular cushions in the anal canal and perianal area. All humans have haemorrhoidal tissue — it is part of normal anatomy helping to maintain anal continence. They become symptomatic (pathological) when swollen, inflamed, or prolapsed due to increased intrarectal pressure from straining, constipation, pregnancy, or venous insufficiency.
Internal Haemorrhoids
Above the dentate line, lined with mucosa. Typically painless but bleed easily. Graded I–IV by degree of prolapse. Grade I and II respond well to conservative and homeopathic treatment.
External Haemorrhoids
Below the dentate line, covered by sensitive anoderm. Painful, especially when thrombosed. Can cause significant discomfort when sitting and may require urgent treatment.
Mixed (Combined) Haemorrhoids
Both internal and external components. Most common presentation in patients with long-standing piles. Require comprehensive constitutional treatment addressing both the mucosal and vascular components.
Common Symptoms
Bright red bleeding during or after defecation
Prolapse of piles during bowel movements
Painful swollen lumps around the anus (external piles)
Itching and irritation around the anal area
Mucus discharge after passing stool
Sensation of incomplete evacuation
Dull aching or heaviness in the rectum
Severe pain if external pile becomes thrombosed
Soreness and discomfort when sitting
Anaemia from chronic rectal bleeding
Benefits of Homeopathy for Hemorrhoids
Stops Bleeding Without Surgery
Homeopathic remedies such as Hamamelis, Phosphorus, and Millefolium are highly effective at controlling rectal bleeding from piles — often within days of starting treatment.
Reduces Prolapse and Swelling
Constitutional treatment reduces venous congestion and inflammation in the haemorrhoidal plexus, shrinking piles and preventing prolapse without the need for banding or surgical excision.
Addresses the Venous Constitution
Many patients with piles have a constitutional tendency to venous congestion — varicose veins, portal hypertension, sedentary lifestyle. Homeopathy works on this constitutional level, reducing systemic venous insufficiency.
Relieves Thrombosed Piles
Thrombosed external piles are extremely painful. Remedies such as Aesculus, Collinsonia, and Hamamelis can dramatically reduce pain and accelerate resolution of thrombosis.
Corrects Underlying Constipation
Piles are almost always caused or maintained by chronic straining. Constitutional treatment corrects the bowel simultaneously — preventing recurrence at its source.
Avoids Surgical Recurrence
Haemorrhoidectomy and banding address the existing piles but not the underlying tendency. Without constitutional treatment, recurrence is common. Homeopathy addresses the root susceptibility.
Our Homeopathic Approach
Grade and Type Assessment
We assess the grade of haemorrhoids (I–IV), whether they are internal, external, or mixed, and whether any have thrombosed. This determines the urgency and intensity of treatment.
Constitutional Case-Taking
Haemorrhoids reflect a constitutional tendency — portal congestion, sedentary lifestyle, dietary habits, pregnancy, chronic constipation. We explore the full constitutional picture to select the deepest-acting remedy.
Remedy Prescription
Aesculus (large purple piles with backache, no bleeding), Hamamelis (bleeding, bruised soreness), Nux Vomica (ineffectual urging with piles), Collinsonia (stubborn piles with constipation), and Muriatic Acid (prolapsed, very sensitive piles) are among key remedies.
Dietary and Lifestyle Modification
High-fibre diet, adequate hydration, avoiding prolonged sitting, Indian squat toilet posture, and regular exercise all significantly support treatment and reduce recurrence.
Surgical Referral When Needed
Grade III-IV prolapsed piles, large thrombosed external haemorrhoids, or uncontrolled bleeding may require surgical intervention. We refer appropriately and offer pre- and post-operative homeopathic support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can homeopathy cure piles permanently?▾
Constitutional homeopathy can achieve complete resolution of piles and prevent recurrence when the underlying causes (constipation, straining, venous constitution) are addressed. Long-term cure requires both homeopathic treatment and lifestyle modification.
How quickly does bleeding stop with homeopathic treatment?▾
Many patients notice significant reduction in rectal bleeding within 1–3 weeks of the correct remedy. Hamamelis and Phosphorus are particularly fast-acting for this symptom.
Can homeopathy replace surgery for Grade III piles?▾
For Grade III piles (prolapsing but reducible), constitutional homeopathy has a good success rate in avoiding surgery when treatment is consistent. Grade IV piles (irreducible prolapse) typically require surgical management, though homeopathy provides valuable supportive care.
I am pregnant and have piles. Is homeopathy safe?▾
Yes. Homeopathic treatment is completely safe during pregnancy and is one of the safest options for pregnancy-related piles. Remedies such as Collinsonia and Hamamelis are frequently used during pregnancy.
Will piles come back after homeopathic treatment?▾
If constipation and straining are also corrected — which is always part of our treatment plan — recurrence rates are low. Patients who maintain dietary improvements and regular exercise rarely have recurrence.
What is the difference between internal and external haemorrhoids?▾
Internal haemorrhoids develop inside the rectum above the dentate line and typically bleed painlessly. External haemorrhoids develop under the skin around the anus and can be very painful, especially if thrombosed. Both respond to homeopathic treatment.
