Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding
Restoring cyclical harmony and healthy flow through personalised classical homeopathy — without synthetic hormones.
Overview
Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) refers to abnormal uterine bleeding with no identifiable structural or systemic cause — no fibroid, polyp or malignancy — and is almost always rooted in hormonal imbalance. It is one of the most common gynaecological complaints among women of reproductive age in India, responsible for a significant proportion of anaemia, lost work days and diminished quality of life.
At HealthKunj, we approach DUB through classical homeopathy — treating the whole person rather than suppressing the bleed. By identifying and correcting the underlying hormonal and constitutional susceptibility, homeopathic treatment aims to restore a regular, healthy menstrual pattern, reduce blood loss progressively and prevent recurrence — all without the side effects associated with prolonged hormonal therapy.

What Is It?
DUB is an umbrella term for abnormal uterine bleeding — heavy, prolonged, frequent or irregular — that occurs in the absence of identifiable pelvic pathology. It most commonly results from anovulatory cycles (cycles where no egg is released), leading to an imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone. It can affect women at any reproductive stage but peaks around puberty and perimenopause when hormonal fluctuations are greatest.
Anovulatory DUB
The most common type — absence of ovulation means progesterone is not produced, leading to oestrogen dominance and unpredictable, often heavy bleeding.
Ovulatory DUB
Less common; ovulation occurs but luteal phase deficiency or progesterone insufficiency causes spotting, short cycles or prolonged light bleeding.
Adolescent & Perimenopausal DUB
Both ends of the reproductive spectrum are prone to irregular cycles due to immature or declining hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian axis function.
Common Symptoms
Unpredictable or irregular menstrual cycles
Bleeding between periods (intermenstrual spotting)
Prolonged periods lasting more than 7 days
Very heavy flow with large clots
Pelvic pain or cramping during bleeding
Fatigue and weakness due to blood loss
Anaemia — pallor, breathlessness, dizziness
Anxiety or mood swings related to cycle unpredictability
Bloating and lower backache
Bleeding after intercourse
Hormonal imbalance symptoms — acne, hair fall
Night sweats or hot flushes alongside bleeding
Benefits of Homeopathy for Uterine Bleeding
Hormone-Free Regulation
Homeopathic remedies gently restore hormonal balance without synthetic hormones, avoiding side effects like weight gain or mood disruption.
Addresses Root Cause
Rather than masking symptoms, classical homeopathy identifies the underlying constitutional imbalance driving DUB.
Reduces Clotting & Heavy Flow
Remedies like Sabina, Trillium pendulum and China are selected to reduce excessive flow and painful clots progressively.
Prevents Recurrence
By correcting the underlying susceptibility, homeopathy reduces the likelihood of DUB returning after treatment ends.
Safe for Long-Term Use
Unlike hormonal therapy or NSAIDs, homeopathic medicines carry no risk of liver toxicity or hormonal dependency over extended use.
Manages Associated Symptoms
Fatigue, anaemia, mood swings and pelvic discomfort are treated alongside the bleeding pattern for whole-person relief.
Our Homeopathic Approach
Comprehensive Case Taking
Dr. Meera records the complete menstrual history — cycle length, flow character, clot size, associated pain, emotional state and general constitutional symptoms to select the most fitting remedy.
Hormonal & Gynaecological Assessment
We review any available investigations — ultrasound, hormonal panels (FSH, LH, oestrogen, progesterone) — to rule out structural causes like polyps or fibroids before finalising the treatment plan.
Constitutional Remedy Selection
A single constitutional remedy is chosen based on the totality of symptoms — physical, emotional and mental — to stimulate the body's own corrective response.
Follow-Up & Potency Adjustment
Monthly follow-ups track cycle regularity, flow volume and energy levels. Potency and frequency are adjusted as improvement progresses.
Dietary & Lifestyle Guidance
Iron-rich dietary recommendations, stress-reduction practices and sleep hygiene advice are provided to support recovery and minimise recurrence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can homeopathy stop abnormal uterine bleeding quickly?▾
Homeopathy is not an emergency treatment; acute heavy bleeds may require conventional management first. However, once stable, homeopathic treatment progressively normalises cycles over 2–4 months, and many patients notice reduced flow within the first cycle.
Will I need to stop hormonal tablets before starting homeopathy?▾
No. We recommend you continue any prescribed medication while we work alongside it. As homeopathic treatment progresses, conventional doses are tapered only under your gynaecologist's supervision.
How long does treatment typically take?▾
Most patients with functional DUB (no structural cause) see significant improvement within 3–6 months. Cases involving fibroids or polyps may require a longer course of 9–12 months.
Is DUB always hormonal, or can it have structural causes?▾
DUB is diagnosed when no structural cause (fibroid, polyp, cancer) is found. If investigations reveal a structural issue, treatment is modified accordingly. Homeopathy can still help both functional and structural categories.
Can homeopathy help if I have been told I need surgery?▾
In many cases, especially early-stage fibroids or functional DUB, homeopathy can reduce symptoms significantly and defer or avoid surgery. We recommend an ultrasound baseline and regular monitoring.
Are there dietary changes I should make alongside treatment?▾
Yes — an iron-rich diet (green leafy vegetables, lentils, dates, sesame seeds) helps combat anaemia. Reducing refined sugar and processed foods supports hormonal balance. Dr. Meera will provide personalised guidance.
